Are you ready to experience Richmond like never before? May is RVA Bike Month, a celebration of all things cycling and a great opportunity to explore the city on two wheels. RVA Bike Month, produced by Sports Backers’ Bike Walk RVA program, is Richmond’s city-wide celebration of National Bike Month. Here's what you need to know to make the most out of RVA Bike Month:

Join the Fun

RVA Bike Month is filled with 60+ exciting events over five weeks, including group rides, bike races, and social gatherings. Check out the event calendar on the RVA Bike Month website and find an event that suits your interests and skill level. You can rent from bike stores in Richmond like Basket and Bike and Riverside Cycling or from a RVA Bike Share location in Downtown Richmond. Out of the 22 total RVA Bike Share stations, 9 stations can be found in downtown locations like the Canal Walk, Main Street Station, Brown's Island, and more! See full list of downtown locations here. Be sure to download the mobile app for easy navigation!

Get Your Bike Ready

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, it's important to make sure your bike is in good working condition. Take it to a local bike shop for a tune-up, or attend one of the many bike maintenance workshops happening throughout the month. Journeyman's Adventure Co. is your one-stop-shop for parts, tools and bikes in Richmond.

Discover New Routes

RVA Bike Month is the perfect opportunity to explore new parts of the city. Protected bike lanes are popping up all over making biking an easier, safer and a better option to navigate RVA than by car. On Franklin Street the bike lane spans 15 blocks and is a separated lane of travel for two-way bike traffic traveling east and west through downtown Richmond between Belvidere and 9th Streets. There are over 10 bikeways throughout downtown, explore them with the RVA Bikeways Map. If a 51.7 mile fully-paved trail is more your style, take a ride on Virginia’s Capital Trail that starts at Great Shiplock Park and runs to Jamestown.

Join the Conversation - RVA Bike Month is more than just a series of events - it's a community. Join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #RVABikeMonth and connect with other cyclists in the city.
