Energy, history and affordability — three reasons why Phil Conein, president of Techead and co-owner of Tulip Solutions LLC, decided to located his company at 111 N. 17th St.
“Shockoe Bottom is where the city began its commerce and life,” he says. “There is a vibe down here that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a large creative community and it’s growing.”

Conein’s IT staffing company, Tulip Solutions, is a spin off of Techead. “We spun it off on the anniversary of Gaston,” he explains. “You have to make lemonade out of lemons.”
The area is a “great place for incubators and creative people,” he adds. “There’s lots of energy.”
