Virginia BioTechnology Research Park

The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park, a joint initiative of Virginia Commonwealth University and the city of Richmond, is situated on 34-acres adjacent to the VCU Medical Center.

The BioTech Park is located on 34 acres adjacent to the VCU Medical Center and is home to more than 55 life science organizations that occupy more than 1.1 million square feet of space in nine buildings and employ more than 2,000 scientists, researchers, engineers, technicians and support staff. This vibrant bioscience community represents a capital investment of more than $525 million.

Philip Morris USA Center for Research and Technology

Philip Morris USA Center for Research and Technology

New construction. $350 million investment; 450,000 square feet.; approximately 500 scientists, engineers and support personnel (Philip Morris USA employees and contractors); 900 parking spaces, located on Jackson Street between Fifth and Seventh streets in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park. Completed in the fall of 2007.

BioTech Center

Open in 1995, The BioTech Center was the state’s first incubator dedicated exclusively to the life sciences. Since opening, 31 companies have successfully “graduated” from the incubator program, three of which are now publicly-traded.

BioTech One

BioTech One is home to graduates of the Park’s incubator program, multi-national chemical and pharmaceutical companies, research institutes of VCU, as well as the VCU Offices of Technology Transfer and Sponsored Research.

BioTech Two

BioTech Two is a state-of-the-art facility that houses the Virginia Department of Forensic Science, the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Virginia Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine.

BioTech Three and Four

BioTech Three pre-dates the Park and is occupied by ancillary and support operations of the VCU Health System. BioTech Four was demolished in early 2007 to provide for construction of BioTech Eight.

BioTech Five

BioTech Five is the home of the North American Research and Development Center for Infilco Degremont, Inc., the U.S. affiliate of the world’s leading water treatment engineering company.

BioTech Six

BioTech Six houses the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS), one of the most advanced laboratories in the nation for public health and safety.

BioTech Seven

BioTech Seven houses the headquarters for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which maintains the national organ transplant waiting list and coordinates the matching and distribution of donated organs to waiting patients.

BioTech Eight

Opening in late 2007, this multi-tenant facility will be home to established bioscience companies, research institutes of VCU and administrative offices for the Virginia Department of Forensic Science.

BioTech Nine

BioTech Nine is home to the Philip Morris USA Center for Research and Technology, a $350 million structure that has consolidated most of the company’s worldwide R&D efforts.
