Friday, December 2nd

The 32nd Annual Grand Illumination of James Center

10th & E. Cary Streets, Free admission, 5:45pm-7pm
Bring your family to James Center for a beautiful (free) family tradition. At 5 pm, SPARC will kick things off from the steps of One James Center with 45 minutes of Christmas Caroling. At 5:30 p.m., VCU’s Pep Band: The Peppas will get the crowd ready for the Illumination from the Main Stage. At 5:59 p.m.Santa, 103.7 Play and WRIC 8 will count down the seconds to turn on the downtown office buildings lights AND James Center’s Great Tree & Reindeer! From 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., experience the magic of the holidays with two blocks of family entertainment. James Center is very excited to present The RockNRoll Chorus as our featured performance!

Katie Dupree of WRIC 8 News will be our Snow Queen! Our entertainment includes: The RockNRoll Chorus, VCU’s Pep Band: The Peppas, Virginia Repertory Theatre’s Cast of A Christmas Story, Richmond Boys Choir, The American Youth Harp Ensemble, Characters from the Nutcracker Cast, Snow Bear, Singer Patsy Butler, the Virginia Piedmont & Central HO Model Railroad Club and much more. Our Kids Stage in front of One James Center welcomes Silly Bus.

James Center is bringing awareness to Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). SCAN will be at Grand Illumination collecting toys for 200 Richmond area children. During the holiday season, these children will be coming to James Center so their parents or guardians can “shop” for gifts. From Grand Illumination night until December 9, please bring unwrapped gifts for children ages 0-17 to the collection sleigh located in the Three James Center Lobby. FREE Poe Illumination

Poe Museum 1914 East Main Street 6-9pm
The Poe Museum’s historic Enchanted Garden will come alive with thousands of lights as the Poe Museum rings in the holiday season with the “Poe Illumination.” Guests will learn about Christmas in Poe's time as you and your family enjoys Victorian Christmas music and crafts as Poe would have known them. FREE Horse and Carriage Rides

Rides start and end in Shockoe Slip at the fountain at 13th and E. Cary Streets, 6pm-10pm
Clip-Clop Clip-Clop – the sound of horses’ hooves on the cobblestones and jingle bells ringing signal the holidays are here in Richmond’s historic Riverfront. A holiday decorated 12-passenger wagon from James River Carriages circles Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom. One round trip ride per person please. Sponsored by Venture Richmond. FREE Main Street Station Holiday Open House and Illumination

Main Street Station and the Plaza, 1500 E. Main Street, Free admission, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Come join in the festivities at Main Street Station’s annual holiday open house! This year there will be holiday music, food trucks, and entertainment for young and old alike. The Polar Express movie will be featured on a 40’ inflatable screen in the Plaza across the street from the Station starting at 6:30 PM. They are proud to announce they will be having Richmond Tuba Christmas featuring 150 tuba players starting at 6:00pm coinciding with the illumination, after, Dr’s of Jazz quartet playing at 7:00, and James River Ringers Bell Choir at 8:00. Also offering Hundley Horse drawn Carriage rides in the plaza and well as food trucks, and free fun for all! Free parking in all adjacent lots to the station. Don’t miss the holiday fun! FREE Dominion Christmas Parade

The 33rd annual Dominion Christmas parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. The parade will depart from the Science Museum on West Broad Street and continue east to 7th Street. This beloved Richmond tradition attracts more than 100,000 spectators each year from everywhere in Virginia, with thousands more enjoying the live television broadcast. For many Richmonders, the parade kicks off the Christmas season. The parade will feature Buddy the Elf as the Grand Marshal, holiday floats, marching bands, huge helium balloons, and, of course, Santa himself! This year’s parade will continue the grand celebration of fun and excitement for all! If you can’t experience the parade in person, you can watch it LIVE on WTVR-CBS6 on the day of the parade from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, or see it on Christmas Day.

FREE 24th Annual James River Parade of Lights

Viewing areas at Libby Hill Park, corner of 28th and E. Franklin Streets, entertainment at 4:30 pm, parade viewing at 6pm; and the Intermediate Terminal Dock, at Dock and Water Streets, parade viewing at 6pm. This year’s parade features festively decorated boats that cruise the parade course from Richmond to Chesterfield and Henrico counties with spectators from throughout the region that gather at several official viewing locations. Valentine Richmond History Center and the Wickham House, John Marshall House, the Virginia State Capitol, the Museum and White House of the Confederacy, Monumental Church, the Egyptian Building, the Beers House, The Virginia State Capitol, Virginia’s Executive Mansion, St. Paul’s Church and St. John’s Church.

A Richmond tradition celebrates the season in 19th century style. The free holiday open house features carriage rides, carolers, living history, live music, children's crafts, gift shops and more. Church Hill Holiday House Tour

CHA is proud to present their 52nd annual Holiday House Tour. Church Hill showcases the homes where Richmond began. They’re the oldest community in historic Richmond and have homes that were built as far back as the 1700s. The neighborhood is an elegant mix of Federal, Greek revival and Victorian homes alongside innovative condominiums within historic structures and a growing number of thriving new restaurants and businesses. Approximately a dozen neighbors open their treasured homes for you to experience the sights, smells and sounds of holidays past. Transportation will also be available between St. John’s Church and The Court End Holiday activities on this day.
