2nd Street Festival
October 6-7, 2007

The hands of time are turned back to the past when 2nd Street was the heart and soul of Richmond’s African-American community. Each year, approximately 45,000 people come to Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward to hear live music on four stages, enjoy children’s activities, taste delicious food, shop in the marketplace and dance in the streets. Tenting support provided by Commonwealth Event Company. There is limited handicapped parking available on Leigh Street for properly identified vehicles. Please enter Leigh from 3rd Street.

Friday Cheers

In its 23rd season Friday Cheers is a true Richmond end-of-week tradition. Join thousands of people each Friday evening (beginning May 11) during the months of May and June to relax on the banks of the beautiful James River at downtown Richmond’s Brown’s Island. Come after work, meet your friends and hear some of the nation’s top bands.
Friday Cheers is Richmond’s longest-running summer concert series in the Richmond Region. The events are free and draw 3,000 to 8,000 people a week to Brown’s Island. The event is sponsored by Coors Light and Yuengling.
In 2007 only, the May 25 event will be held in partnership with Fridays at Sunset at Richmond’s Intermediate Terminal location on the James River to help celebrate the “Rock the Boat” Godspeed Sail sponsored by Richmond Region 2007.Friday Cheers 2007 Line-Up

A special combination of Friday Cheers and Fridays at Sunset in commemoration of Richmond Region 2007’s Rock the Boat event. Hip-hop band icons, The Roots, will perform at the Intermediate Terminal, 3101 Water Street, Richmond, 23219. Directions [PDF]. Parking will be near the venue. Guests are welcome to bring chairs. Please note that The Roots concert is the only Friday Cheers concert to be held at the Intermediate Terminal. River City Beer and Seafood Festival

Brown’s Island
The River City Beer and Seafood Festival is held every June on Downtown Richmond’s Brown’s Island. This free Richmond event features a gorgeous venue situated between the Canal Walk and the James River, five outstanding bands, great seafood and fabulous beer! Tenting support provided by Commonwealth Event Company.
Bands will include Mattie Phiffer on stage from 1 – 2 p.m., Richmond Afrobeat Movement from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., Plunky and Oneness from 4 - 5 p.m., Kurt Stemhagen and Rockfish Willie on stage from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and FRENS from 7- 9 p.m.
There are a wide selection of distinct brews and array of food available including crabcakes, fish, shrimp, scallops, hushpuppies, soft-shell crabs, smoked salmon, catfish nuggets, crab dip, fried oysters and steamed shrimp.

- Free and open to the public (donations accepted). 8,000 - 10,000 people attend annually.
- Tasting mugs are available for purchase for people 21 and older.

Join us Friday, May 25 from 7 – 10 p.m. for a special combination Friday Cheers and Fridays at Sunset in commemoration of Richmond Region 2007’s “Rock the Boat” event. Hip-hop band icons, The Roots, will perform on the Banks of the James River, near Shockoe Slip, at the Intermediate Terminal, 3101 Water Street, Richmond, 23219.
The Godspeed has landed

The Richmond Region is invited to commemorate the Godspeed’s historic journey from Jamestown to Richmond by visiting a replica of the 17th century vessel which will re-enact the famous landing of Christopher Newport in 1607 near Rocketts Landing with an appropriate ceremony and salute. All events are held at the city’s Intermediate Terminal, 3101 Water Street.
8th and 9th Street State Office Complex

April 11, 2007
Venture Richmond, Historic Richmond Foundation and the Virginia Center for Architecture will host a program to discuss the new 8th and 9th street state office complex. The presentation will be held in the SunTrust auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free but space is limited. Easter on Parade

This amazing street festival on historic Monument Avenue (from Davis Avenue to Allen Avenue) is one of Richmond’s favorite spring celebrations. Annual Downtown Development Forum

Venture Richmond will host a morning and evening edition (7:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.) of the Annual Downtown Development Forum featuring 20 developers and more than 75 developments.
