The 2010 Line-up:
May 7th – Lee Brice w/ Puddleduck
When Lee Brice first entered the country consciousness with the Top 30 hit "She Ain't Right" in 2007, his voice carrying over FM radio waves like honey trickling through lines of melody etched in leather, his rugged sound and raw emotion spoke for a new generation of Nashville recording artists. "I love what I'm hearing on the radio today," Brice said. "People aren't trying to be perfect or slick anymore. It reminds me of records back in the day, when everything sounded like it was played live. I'd love it if someday people could look back on what I'm doing now too and say, 'When Lee Brice came around, something changed in a positive way.'" As follow-up singles "Happy Endings," "Upper Middle Class White Trash," and "Love Like Crazy" have doggedly climbed the charts, Brice has continued to change the landscape of country with images inspired by the Carolina backcountry where he was raised.

May 14th – Dominion Riverrock, featuring Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Robert Randolph and the Family Band www.dominionriverrock.com
May 21 – Railroad Earth w/ TBD
It's no surprise that the band Railroad Earth took their name from Jack Kerouac's flowing prose-poem, October in the Railroad Earth. Interspersed with memories of the past and the present, the story weaves a complex tapestry of impressions and reflections, all underlining the American history of the workingman. Much like Kerouac, Railroad Earth's music captures the grit and soul of rural and urban America and translates it into something deeper than just music. The six-piece ensemble crafts each song artfully, like a storyline in a novel about travel, wonderment, tragedy, and heartbreak. In their relatively short tenure, the band has released five critically acclaimed albums and amassed an impressive national following with sold-out shows from coast-to-coast. They've also graced the main stages of some of the country's most prestigious festivals, including; Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rothbury and the 10,000 Lakes Festival. And this past September, Railroad Earth performed for the first time at the legendary amphitheater, Red Rocks, in Morrison, CO. Yet, Railroad Earth remains surprisingly grounded and continues to stick close to their musical roots and influences – always striving to keep the next show is as inspired as the last. www.railroadearth.com
May 28 – Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers w/ William Walter & Co.
"SK6ERS," as they're also affectionately known, have carved a determined, inspiring path since forming in Western Massachusetts in 2003. An exceptional live act given to high-energy showmanship, The Sixers are closing in on their 1,000th show with a newfound grit and gratitude. Stephen and core Sixers – Kit "Goose" Karlson (keys, bass, tuba, accordion) and Brian "Boots" Factor (drums, mandolin, banjo) -- are friends who act like brothers and switch off on their instruments to keep it fresh; much in the tradition of their collective heroes, The Band. Producer Tom Schick (Norah Jones, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright) signed up for the new record and says he now understands why the group has a growing legion of loyal fans. "They're a 'classic rock' band in the best sense of the phrase," he says. "You can hear Neil Young, Tom Petty and John Cougar in there. It brings back a lot of good feelings about growing up and listening to great people who can really play their instruments. It's not pieced together on a computer. It's very refreshing."

June 4 – Karl Denson's Tiny Universe w/ DJ Williams Projekt
Like a Super Nova burning bright in the night sky comes Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. Based out of San Diego, KDTU began its journey in 1998 after bandleader Karl Denson decided to change gears five years after he'd help create The Greyboy Allstars. GBA had proven themselves as the ultimate party band, spreading their "West Coast Boogaloo" style all over the world, making "Jazz" a dance term once again. Karl set out to take this formula to the next level by putting more emphasis on vocals and adding some funk, r&b and hip hop elements. It turned out to be a winning combination which set KDTU on the top of the heap in the touring world from 1999 through 2005. In 2005 Karl decided to get back to his roots and work in a smaller jazzier setting. During 2006 and 2007 Karl led KD3, a trio configuration featuring Sax, Organ and Drums. This led to the 2007 release of KD3's "Lunar Orbit", an album which was a great critical success. In 2008, Karl rejoined his former boss Lenny Kravitz and spent the year country hopping through Europe and North America. In 2009 Karl went back into the studio and conjured up what is being hailed as the most soulful KDTU adventure yet, "Brother's Keeper" which was released Sept 15th, 2009. www.karldenson.us
June 11 – Emmitt-Nershi Band w/ a Good Natured Riot
The idea for the Emmitt-Nershi band has been in the works for years as Drew Emmitt and Bill Nershi created a strong friendship at shows and festivals as they crossed musical paths. The reality of Emmitt-Nershi came about in the fall of 2007 when both Drew and Bill found themselves with free time from their other projects. As the dynamic lead singer and mandolin player with the popular jamband Leftover Salmon and his own Drew Emmitt Band, Drew is a true renaissance man on musical instruments. Playing mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, he's a string man to be reckoned with. Bill Nershi has delighted countless fans as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and founding member of the String Cheese Incident. A seasoned veteran of flat-picking and a variety of acoustic styles, Nershi adds a unique, colorful perspective to virtually any musical situation he encounters, and his enthusiasm and playful spirit encourage an interactive, participatory experience for musicians and fans alike. Both founders of popular "jambands" have traveled the world and played in front of hundreds of thousands of people with their respective bands. They now play along with Andy Thorn, a young banjoist who is fast emerging as one of a new generation of hot pickers. Rounding out the band is Tyler Grant, a young guitarist with high aspirations. A versatile musician, Tyler is an active and experienced performer and teacher of many musical styles. www.emmittnershiband.com
June 18 – DeerTick w/ Former Champions
Deer Tick is an American indie folk band from Providence, Rhode Island led by guitarist and singer-songwriter John McCauley. Deer Tick's music has often been described as a combination of folk, blues, and country with a strong grunge influence. McCauley is known for his distinct gruff-sounding voice. The band began as McCauley's solo project in December 2004. Beginning his touring career with a lot of help from Brendon Massei (Viking Moses), McCauley had toured extensively across the United States by the age of 19. He released 3 tapes and numerous CD-Rs in this time period, and eventually settled into what is now known as Deer Tick. The group released its first studio album War Elephant on September 4, 2007. War Elephant was re-released by Partisan Records on November 11, 2008. The band released their second album, Born on Flag Day, on June 23, 2009. The record was released by Partisan Records. www.myspace.com/deertick
June 25 – The Dynamites Feat. Charles Walker w/ Whirlybyrd
Walker deserves his due after decades as an unsung musical hero. He first became a professional entertainer in his native Nashville in the late 1950s, recording with hit producer Ted Jarrett and appearing nightly at the New Era Club, one of the South's leading black nightclubs. Walker spent most of the 1960s and '70s in New York, performing frequently at the Apollo Theater and Small's Paradise when the original funk scene coalesced. Fronting various bands, including the underrated Little Charles & the Sidewinders, Walker released singles for Chess, Decca, and a number of smaller labels. The records' quality endured and are now prized among collectors. After the recordings gained notice in Europe's Northern Soul scene, Walker found steady solo work overseas, and he lived in England and Spain before returning to Music City in the 1990s. The Dynamites are far from being alone in their second millennium pursuit of rekindling funk's original flames. A renaissance of funk and soul is snatching up listeners from coast to coast and beyond. A furious and unrelenting barrage of stripped-down, rhythmic R&B and swinging soul, Kaboom! is the aptly titled full-length debut by Nashville funk band The Dynamites. Bill Elder (a.k.a. Leo Black) is the troupe's founder, bandleader, guitarist, primary composer, arranger, and producer. www.myspace.com/thedynamitesband
Friday Cheers is produced and managed by Venture Richmond. Venture Richmond also produces Easter on Parade, the Second Street Festival and the Richmond Folk Festival, and is a co-producer, with Richmond Sportsbackers, of Dominion Riverrock. www.venturerichmond.com
