18th Season for Community Event Celebrating Jackson Ward
The 2nd Street Festival, presented by
Capital One, Dominion and Verizon, returns for the 18th year to
celebrate the rich culture of the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood.
The event is produced by Venture Richmond.
Over the years it has grown to be one of the Mid-Atlantic's
largest street festivals. Nearly 50,000 people visit historic Jackson
Ward to reminisce about the days when 2nd Street was the heart and soul
of Richmond's African American community.
Attendees enjoy jazz, R&B, fashion shows, gospel music, the
Capital One Children's Area and performances by community groups on
four stages. They also enjoy the marketplace, delicious food and
reuniting with family, friends, classmates and acquaintances.
Highlights of this year's event are a Saturday evening performance by the Average White Band, and a Sunday afternoon performance by Darwin
Hobbs.
