Canal Cruises Floats Into a New Season


River District Canal Cruises Kicks Off the 2008 Season!

Join River District Canal Cruises for an informative 40-minute historically narrated tour of the James River & Kanawha Canal along Richmond's Historic Canal Walk in one of the covered boats, which accommodates up to 38 passengers and departs on the hour from the Turning Basin.

Richmond's canals were first begun in 1789 after George Washington lobbied the General Assembly to proceed with his vision of a canal and turnpike system that would connect the harbors of the east to the trade and market opportunities west, all the way to the Rocky Mountains.

Spring hours of operation: April 4th – June 8th, Friday & Saturday: Noon – 7pm and Sunday: Noon – 5pm. Adults: $5.00, Children (5 - 12 years old): $4.00, Children 4 and under: Free, Seniors (65 years and up): $4.00. Private charters are also available: canal boats may be chartered for $95 for a one-hour charter. This fee is discounted to $85 non-profit educational and seniors groups.
