"Burning up the Bottom" Firefighter's Festival
17th Street Farmers' Market, Free admission, 11am-8pm
This new festival is a celebration of the spirit, passion and dedication of the men and women who provide the valuable services of fire protection and emergency medical care to citizens throughout the Richmond region. Enjoy the Fire Apparatus Parade at 12pm, firefighter demonstrations at 1pm, Firefighter Olympic Games at 3pm, a Firefighter Charity Auction - where the ladies have a chance to bid on their very own hometown hero at 5pm, and the live headlining band Speed 8 Limit takes the stage at 6pm. The Lil' Sparks children's fun area will be open from 11am-6pm. Shockoe Bottom restaurants will be selling food on the market all day! Free parking at 18th and Franklin until 8pm.

Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, Richmond Slave Trail Commission, and James River Institute for Archaeology Present "Holding History in Your Hands-Artifacts from Lumpkin's Jail"
An opportunity to hold history in your hands, by washing and helping to document some of the materials retrieved from the excavation of the Lumpkin's Jail site in Shockoe Bottom!
Members of the public are invited to stop by the Black History Museum on Saturday, September 19 at 11:00am, to help wash, tag, and document materials retrieved from the site. Object washing will take place in the Black History Museum's parking lot at 00 Clay Street.
Slave Trail Chair, Delegate Delores McQuinn, will provide remarks concerning the Slave Trail Commission and Lumpkin's Jail. JRIA's Tonia Deetz Rock will direct the artifact washing and Dr. Matt Laird, also of JRIA, will provide a brief introduction to archaeology at 12:30pm inside the Museum. Refreshments will be served. The event is open to persons of all ages; children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult.
