Venture Richmond Announces Updated
Performers/Schedule for 2nd Street Festival

22nd Season for Community Event Celebrating Jackson Ward

RICHMOND, VA - The 2nd Street Festival, presented by Altria and Dominion, returns for the 22nd year Oct. 2-3, 2010, to celebrate the rich culture of the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. The FREE event is produced by Venture Richmond.

As always, the 2nd Street Festival takes place the first full weekend in October. Over the years it has grown to be one of the Mid-Atlantic's largest street festivals. Nearly 50,000 people visit historic Jackson Ward to reminisce about the days when 2nd Street was the heart and soul of Richmond's African American community.

Attendees enjoy live music, R&B, Jazz, fashion shows, gospel music, the children's area and performances by many community groups on four stages. They also enjoy the marketplace, delicious food and reuniting with family, friends, classmates and acquaintances. Hours are noon-9 p.m. on Saturday and noon- 6p.m. on Sunday.

Highlights of this year's event are a Saturday evening performance by Con Funk Shun featuring Michael Cooper, an American R&B and funk band most popular in the 1970s and 1980s releasing eleven albums over a span of ten years. The group's 1977 LP, Secrets, was certified gold in the US, as were 1978's Loveshine, 1979's Candy, and 1980's Spirit of Love. They scored a string of top ten hits on the Billboard black singles chart, including 1977's "Ffun" (#1), 1978's "Shake and Dance with Me" (#5), 1979's "Chase Me" (#4), 1980s "Got to Be Enough" (#8), and "Too Tight" (#8).
